Why a vacuum packaging bag?

Food vacuum packaging is a great way to preserve freshness, extend shelf life, and reduce waste. Food vacuum packaging is done by using a vacuum sealer, of which there are many options to fit your production. Vacuum bags are made of multiple layers of film and come in a variety of thicknesses. The pressure difference between the inside and outside of the package causes air to be drawn out, creating a vacuum within the flexible packaging. This process seals the product from oxygen and moisture while keeping it fresh.

Summit reps first get to know your business and then recommend a product or solution. That's why we have a large variety of vacuum sealers for every type of product and level of production.

Most bag sealers are wire sealers that make a 5mm – 10mm wide seal. But your production needs might differ. The best choice for your next bag sealer will be determined by the type of bag used, the food product, and the post-packaging needs of the finished product.

Vacuum packaging is one of the best ways to ensure freshness and extend shelf life. There are many kinds of vacuum packaging available, including traditional vacuum packaging where a partial to full vacuum is pulled within the pouch or film and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP). MAP is used to reduce the amount of oxygen that reaches the food inside the package. This slows down spoilage and extends the shelf life of the food.

Types of vacuum packaging bags

Vacuum bags come in different thicknesses and sizes. Smooth bags are available in various thicknesses and sizes. Vacuum bags usually come in a 3, 4, or 5-mil thickness. For most products, the 3-mil thickness is ideal, because it is sturdy enough to get a reliable seal for long-term storage. The type of vacuum sealing device being used determines the type of bag that can be utilized. However, if the product has sharp edges, such as bone or pointed metal objects, then a thicker material may be needed.

Summit offers vacuum packaging bags for all your needs, including:

  • Channeled vacuum bags
  • Vacuum zipper bags
  • Notched vacuum bags
  • Meat/seafood vacuum bag

Common Questions

The main benefit is that it prevents the growth of bacteria, molds, and other microorganisms. It also preserves the freshness and quality of your products. Vacuum sealing can be used to preserve fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, dairy products, etc.

It's difficult to vacuum-seal anything that has an active enzyme in it, like milk, yogurt, cheese, etc. The enzymes will continue to work after sealing. Also, certain foods that contain fats, oils, or grease (like butter) cannot be vacuum-sealed. They must instead be frozen before vacuum packing.

Vacuum bags are typically made of polyethylene or polypropylene film and nylon. These films are very durable and can withstand high temperatures as well as freezing.

It depends on the food. Most food lasts much longer in a vacuum sealed bag than it would without one. Vacuum packages also protect against moisture loss and extend the shelf life of foods by preventing oxygen from reaching the food.

It's safe to use a vacuum sealer on raw meat or poultry if you follow proper handling procedures and guidelines. Depending upon the shelf-life requirement, you can then either refrigerate or freeze the meat or poultry. Because vacuum-packing preserves food, it can help prevent foodborne illnesses. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 48 million people become sick each year due to contaminated food. Of those cases, 128,000 result in hospitalization, and 3,000 lead to death. By reducing the amount of oxygen in the package, vacuum-packing reduces the risk of food poisoning.

Vacuum packaging is used for many different products, including food, electronics, and pharmaceuticals. It's a great way to preserve freshness and extend shelf life. However, it isn't always necessary for every type of product. For example, food doesn't necessarily need to be vacuum packed, but it can be beneficial for certain items. In addition, some products may require special handling before they can be vacuum sealed.
